I went along to Manor Fields Park on 7th August to see what was happening as part of the Summer Holiday programme. I found children enjoying themselves on a cool-but-dry afternoon with a range of activities at the top of the park, just off City Road. This was four hours of free activities and fun for children 5 and over with a parent or carer provided by MASKK, Green Estate, Manor Church and Community Project and ActivKidz.

Children were having their faces turned into butterflies. Others were playing archery or kicking a ball round on the field. There was a sign saying ‘Forest School’, but when I went to see what was happening, Wes had, at that point, no children; but some would definitely be coming later, and he had prepared goose feathers to make into pens or sticks to practise whittling and a whole trolley full of equipment for children to practise woodcraft.

I joined Rose under her Woodland Wellness sign and found that she was helping children to create attractive natural bunting by pressing different wild flowers under the small triangles of material. Lisa from Manor Church and Community Project had material for making kites from paper, sticks and string, to show how you can be creative with the very ordinary things around you. Lisa from the Friends of Manor Fields (celebrating its 10th annual Green Flag Award) was collecting ideas for the further development of the park and its facilities.

And there were pizzas!

Presiding over the fun were Craig and Emma, whose exceptionally hard work of preparation guaranteed that the fun day would be both creative and really fun!

There are two more Fun Days at Manor Fields on 14th and 21st August. Don’t miss them.

Doing things together is great

It was lovely yesterday to have so many positive adults come and join us for #NationalPlayDay and make our little event in Manor Fields Park more welcoming for everyone. Thank you to our local Councillors (Laura and Elle) and (Mary) Chair of the East Sheffield LAC for coming and understanding that providing play opportunities is even more important to support all children and families to be able to come together in their communities.
