On 4th October 2025, MASKK proudly welcomed Safiya Saeed, the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Sheffield, to our celebrated Short Breaks project. This visit marked a special day, aligning with our 25th anniversary of serving Sheffield’s families and the launch of our brand-new play facilities.
About the Lord Mayor
Councillor Safiya Saeed made history in May 2025 by becoming the first Black woman wearing a hijab to hold the Lord Mayor’s office in Sheffield, bringing a vibrant blend of diversity and dedication to her role. Elected originally in 2021, she has served as a Councillor for Burngreave and held leadership roles including Deputy Lord Mayor and Chair of the North East Local Area Committee.
Her priorities include networking, community support, and youth empowerment – resonate deeply with MASKK’s mission to offer inclusive, engaging experiences for children with SEND.
You can connect with her office by emailing safiya.saeed@councillor.sheffield.gov.uk
About MASKK’s Short Breaks Project
MASKK’s Short Breaks is a joyful, inclusive initiative for children aged 5+ that offers structured after-school, Saturday-term, and holiday-week sessions tailored to children with SEND. Qualified staff deliver 1:1 support when necessary, with a full calendar of fun—from computer games and arts & crafts to trips in local parks.
These programs also provide respite for parents and carers, with referrals managed by Sheffield City Council’s SNIPS team or contact MASKK direct via April Murray, Short Breaks Manager (contactable through shortbreaks@maskk.org.uk)
