Bringing Light to the Darker Months: MASKK’s Winter Sessions Are Back – Funded Until Easter
Winter can be a challenging time for many families. The evenings draw in early, the weather keeps us indoors more, and days like Blue Monday remind us just how important it is to stay connected, active and supported.
That’s why we’re so excited to share that MASKK is running three free weekly sessions all the way through to Easter – giving children, young people, and families more opportunities to play, explore and enjoy their local green spaces throughout the darker months.
These are being delivered with help from Manor Church and Community Project and The Green Estate CIC.
These sessions are completely free and open to our community, thanks to generous support from the Safer Sheffield Partnership, funded by Sheffield City Council, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, and the Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).
We are incredibly grateful – this support allows us not only to deliver fun activities, but to build stronger, safer, more connected communities.
Why These Sessions Matter
These winter play sessions aren’t just about activities (though there are plenty!). They’re about something deeper and more meaningful:
⭐ Helping children and families stay active and playful in winter
We know the dark, cold months can make it harder to get outside or stay engaged. Our sessions give children consistent, weekly opportunities to move, create, explore and have fun – no pressure, no cost, and no booking required.
⭐ Supporting wellbeing during a time many find tough
Connection is powerful. Whether it’s crafting indoors, playing games in the park, or learning new outdoor skills, these sessions offer a space to feel part of something positive.
⭐ Building confidence and safety in Manor Fields Park
A key aim of this project is to help families feel more confident using the park, knowing that trusted adults, playworkers and community teams are present and active.
The more people who use and love their local park, the safer and more vibrant it becomes for everyone.
⭐ Strengthening the community’s relationship with their green spaces
When people feel welcome, supported and connected to their park, the whole community benefits. We hope these sessions help residents of all ages feel proud of their local environment and empowered to enjoy it year‑round.
